This last week I visited an old friend...actually it just felt like an
old friend, its really an old location... Rural, Wisconsin. It is an
area that I toddled upon as child, stomped on later as a teen
and now cherish and honor by recording memories of in photo images.
Whether you are nestled along the banks of or floating down the Crystal
River, or traveling along on one of Wisconsin's Most Beautiful Rustic Roads...Rural
Wisconsin will make you feel like you are coming home.
Because all of
the properties in Rural are so "park" like and meticulously developed
and maintained...you will feel the pull to navigate the
properties...however almost all of the area is now privately owned and
although the community is welcoming and gracious, I caution you to
please ask permission before wandering or snapping photos.Settled in the 1850's by pioneers from New England, the entire Village of Rural is listed in the National Register of Historic Places. Visitors to this small village, located along the Crystal River about six miles south of Waupaca, are encouraged to walk along the streets to see the Greek Revival-style homes a rare example of Yankee architecture in the Midwest.
Many of the owners of even the newer homes in the area have gone to great lengths and expense to "retro fit or adopt" an authentic feel or vibe along with their neighbors. Included here are just a few of the beautiful images I captured that day of several of Rural's neighbors. I would like to humbly thank all of the owners who granted me permission not only to take, but also to share photos here on the blog and on Capture Wisconsin.
