We set out on this last trip of 2016 with much trepidation.  It was the end of our explorations for this our first year of retirement.  With Roy taking a new part time position this coming Monday; we made our last hurrah in 8 days and 7 nights returning only this past Tuesday. We put on over 3500 miles, traveling thru North and South Dakota, Montana, Wyoming, Minnesota and the width of Wisconsin.  In that short time we made it to Theodore Roosevelt National Park, Yellowstone, the Tetons, Devils Tower, with the SD Badlands (re-visited from June), and WILD HORSES from three separate locations. I'll go into all of them in detail later.  But here I want to introduce you to the most recent controversial conversation of:  Wild Horses as Wildlife and the Bureau of Land Management and the possible euthanization of 45,000 wild horses in the US.

I did not know, until this trip, that wild horses are planned to be killed by a US Government Sanctioned Department the BLM or the Bureau of Land Management.  I was under the impression, falsely, that wildlife was wildlife and protected as such.  I've never been as elated to see these beautiful animals in their natural environment in Theodore Roosevelt National Park and at the same time as disappointed to realize we have all but abandoned our wild horses here in the US.

Theodore Roosevelt National Park runs a very successful feral horse program, one I believe should be replicated in other National or State Forests, Preserves or Parks.

If you believe Wild Horses are Wild Animals and should be protected as such...here is how you can help:

BLM ADVISORY BOARD JUST VOTED TO RECOMMEND EUTHANIZATION OF ALL UNADOPTABLE HORSES IN LONG TERM HOLDING. This is in hopes that WashDC will wake up and give more money to BLM.  That is approximately 45,000 wild horses that have been permanently branded with a "U" as Undesirable or Un-adoptable and stuck in holding areas all over the US.  These "U" marked animals have in the past been marked and held in these small cages for the rest of their lives which can be from very young to 30 years...should they live that long.  They are animals that have been put up for sale and have not sold in three auctions.  For this reason and this reason alone they are doomed to a life in a holding cell or death by euthanization.
GINGER WAS THE ONLY PERSON ON THE BOARD TO VOTE "NO."
Send your civil, thoughtful comments to the Adv. Board at this email address.
