Take Me to the River Exhibit - Grand Kakalin in Kaukauna, WI - Nov 4th through Dec 2nd

Take Me to the River Exhibit -  Grand Kakalin in Kaukauna, WI - Nov 4th through Dec 2nd

We are so proud to invite you to our latest effort to "get out there" and present some of our work at the latest exhibit opening this coming Friday, Nov 4th from 6-10pm:  "Take Me to the River" taking place at the Grand Kakalin in Kaukauna, WI.  Although this exhibit is just a small sampling of what we actually all do in our photographic efforts, it is the "heart and soul" representation of our work.

We want you to know each of our images is the result of many patient hours spent in the field observing wildlife or at events, or sometimes exploration, learning, feeling, and seeing "new" things whether we are right in our own backyard or traveling. It is an exciting time in photography, and we fully embrace the power of being able to adjust the digital raw camera data into works of art with the detail, authenticity, and direct connection to the subject matter of choice, that comes with photography. It is very important to us that our art is indeed photographic because, it means it is in fact real events that we experienced in real places, with real people, or have discovered in the natural beauty of this multidimensional, multi-seasoned state. We do our best to capture our photographs in traditional single exposures. In every case, we strive to make our art honest to the original scene, with modest contrast and saturation adjustments for aesthetic considerations. We hope some of our images will inspire you to get outdoors and explore and to reconnect with nature!

We are asked on a regular basis, even by relatives  "Just what is it that you do?"  So we came up with a short biographical statement for what we have done and accomplished:

Wisconsin Photographers Roy and Carol Toepke are a husband wife team that travel the state in pursuit of fine art and photo-journalistic images.  Their images have been published in two separate Capture Door County Books, one Capture Wisconsin Book; Edible Door, Journey Through Wisconsin and Our Wisconsin Magazines, as well as many Visitor Bureaus Guides throughout the state.  Their work has been displayed at the MOWA, the Trout Museum, Share, Plymouth Arts, Art Garage and the Hardy Gallery as well as presenting at many juried, invitational and solo exhibits.  They have presented at multiple Gallery Walks and Art Markets.  They also provide images by private gallery to clients via their website to individual galleries such as Gallery and Frame of FDL, Avenue Art of Appleton and to Decorator firms throughout the state and beyond.

Please join us, we will be available and on site:
Fri, Nov 4th 6-8pm

Wild Horses as Wildlife and the Bureau of Land Management

Please Help Us, Help the Wild Horses of the USA

Wild Horses pictured here are from Theodore Roosevelt National Park from August 29th, 2016

We set out on this last trip of 2016 with much trepidation.  It was the end of our explorations for this our first year of retirement.  With Roy taking a new part time position this coming Monday; we made our last hurrah in 8 days and 7 nights returning only this past Tuesday. We put on over 3500 miles, traveling thru North and South Dakota, Montana, Wyoming, Minnesota and the width of Wisconsin.  In that short time we made it to Theodore Roosevelt National Park, Yellowstone, the Tetons, Devils Tower, with the SD Badlands (re-visited from June), and WILD HORSES from three separate locations. I'll go into all of them in detail later.  But here I want to introduce you to the most recent controversial conversation of:  Wild Horses as Wildlife and the Bureau of Land Management and the possible euthanization of 45,000 wild horses in the US.

I did not know, until this trip, that wild horses are planned to be killed by a US Government Sanctioned Department the BLM or the Bureau of Land Management.  I was under the impression, falsely, that wildlife was wildlife and protected as such.  I've never been as elated to see these beautiful animals in their natural environment in Theodore Roosevelt National Park and at the same time as disappointed to realize we have all but abandoned our wild horses here in the US.

Theodore Roosevelt National Park runs a very successful feral horse program, one I believe should be replicated in other National or State Forests, Preserves or Parks.

If you believe Wild Horses are Wild Animals and should be protected as such...here is how you can help:

BLM ADVISORY BOARD JUST VOTED TO RECOMMEND EUTHANIZATION OF ALL UNADOPTABLE HORSES IN LONG TERM HOLDING. This is in hopes that WashDC will wake up and give more money to BLM.  That is approximately 45,000 wild horses that have been permanently branded with a "U" as Undesirable or Un-adoptable and stuck in holding areas all over the US.  These "U" marked animals have in the past been marked and held in these small cages for the rest of their lives which can be from very young to 30 years...should they live that long.  They are animals that have been put up for sale and have not sold in three auctions.  For this reason and this reason alone they are doomed to a life in a holding cell or death by euthanization.
GINGER WAS THE ONLY PERSON ON THE BOARD TO VOTE "NO."
Send your civil, thoughtful comments to the Adv. Board at this email address.
